For 2026 and 2027, ChiLab is developing an idea to create a creative book about mangroves. ChiLab’s program—which involves exploring mangrove forests and creating works based on this theme—is titled “In the Child and Wild.”
“In The Child And Wild” is one of ChiLab’s programs exploring how we can give back to the generous nature that has nurtured global creativity. Inspired by the wonder found in observing the natural world through the eyes of a child, the program brings together creative groups from diverse fields for an experience that blends learning with play. It sows the seeds of connection with nature, imparts biological knowledge, and encourages real-world applications. Art can become a song that honors the land and celebrates the natural world; indeed, the very act of expressing gratitude to nature enriches the soul day by day.
The program consists of two parts:
Part 1: Exploring the Can Gio Mangrove Forest.
Part 2: Craft workshop exploring the integration of mangrove ecology with Vietnamese folk art and culture.
In The Child And Wild Program: Can Gio
Part 1: A tour to explore and learn about the Can Gio Mangrove Forest
ChiLab, together with artists, creators, and young people from diverse fields, embarked on a one-day exploration of the Can Gio Mangrove Forest. The journey took the group from District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, to two key destinations in Can Gio: the Dan Xay Mangrove Biosphere Reserve and the Vam Sat Ecotourism Site.
The Can Gio mangrove forest is located about 50–60 km southeast of the center of Ho Chi Minh City. The Can Gio Mangrove Biosphere Reserve is Vietnam’s first biosphere reserve, recognized by UNESCO on January 21, 2000.
Here, we were guided and introduced by mangrove forest management staff and guides to the following:
– Ecological characteristics of the mangrove forest.
– Local livelihoods linked to the mangrove forest.
– Livelihoods and forest conservation plans of households tasked with forest protection.
– Sightseeing and games within the mangrove forest.
– Mangrove forest culinary experiences.

Part 2: Organizing a workshop integrating the unique biology of mangrove forests with Vietnamese folklore.
This workshop aims to share the following with participants:
– Insights into Vietnamese souvenir products.
– Discussions on incorporating Vietnam’s fascinating and significant ecological characteristics into souvenir products and designs.
– Knowledge regarding mangrove ecosystem biology.
– Mangrove-themed pattern decoration, led by Dremachi Space and the participants, drawing inspiration from Vietnamese folklore.
